Tax Appeals

If the closing involves a property that is being purchased for a price reflecting a value substantially less than what the county used the previous year, the buyer may contact the Tax Assessor’s Office regarding use of the current purchase price as the assessed value.

For example, if the current assessment is $150,000.00 and the buyer is paying a purchase price of $100,000.00, the buyer would want to contact the Tax Assessor after closing and furnish a copy of the closing statement. The buyer would request a reduction in value in the next available assessment.
