Homestead Exemption

  • If this closing involves property that will be used as the personal residence of the buyer, the buyer must file for the homestead exemption. You may file for homestead exemption at any time after closing until the deadline issued by the county the property is located in. The deadline will be provided at the closing.
  • The buyer should contact the Tax Commissioner/Tax Assessor at the courthouse for further instructions as to where to go to make the homestead filing, if applicable.
